The London Hispanic Scholarship Awards (LHSA) just announced that it will provide $2,000 in new scholarships for college-bound Hispanic students during the 2011-2012 academic year, based on a gift from Accident Resolution Group (ARG), Patey Law Group (PLG), RONA, and La Jornada.
LHSA works to address the barriers that keep many Hispanics from earning a college degree, and the scholarships funded marks the latest step in a relationship that began in 2009.
Today, Mayor Fontana accepted the Bicycle Friendly Community Award on behalf of the City of London. The City was awarded the Bronze rating by Share the Road Cycling Coalition, a provincial cycling advocacy organization that works with municipalities to make communities more bicycle-friendly.
“London is a Bicycle Friendly Community, said Mayor Fontana. “And, I am very pleased we have been recognized for this accomplishment. The bicycle is being used by more Londoners as both the number one choice for daily transportation and as an occasional option for getting to work. Many Londoners also use their bikes for recreation. This choice benefits our community health and speaks to Londoner’s changing attitudes and actions.”
I was extremely saddened to hear this morning of the passing of my friend and colleague, Jack Layton. On behalf of London City Council and all Londoners, I wish to extend sincere condolences to Olivia and the Layton family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them at this very difficult time.
Jack was a man of strong convictions and an enviable passion for his country. He served Canada with dignity, boundless energy and unwavering commitment. Today we remember and honour him for all the things that made him Jack, his compassion, his wit and his love of country. We stand together as Canadians in mourning.

But What do I Know?..................Brett Lawrie, Jason Bay and Jim Thome.
My weekly opinions, observations and rants about some Canadian baseball stories (Please follow me on Twitter: @kevinglewsports):
Two weeks ago, I wrote in my CBC blog that given his talents, his all-out style of play and his Canadian citizenship, Brett Lawrie has a chance to be the most popular player in Toronto Blue Jays history. I took some flak for this. Just wondering how Jays fans feel now?
Jamie Campbell mentioned it on Jays Connected on Rogers Sportsnet, but little else has been said about the fact that when Mark Teahen and Brett Lawrie hit back-to-back in the Jays lineup last Saturday, it was the first time in franchise history that two Canadians hit back-to-back in the club’s order.

We met this guy and his owner at the swimming pond. He was kind enough to pose.
It's really hard to sum up Pawlooza 2011 in a few paragraphs so I encourage you to go to http://www.pawlooza.com.
I will list a few of the things that we remembered from this wonderful event. The "Pawlooza Organizing Team" including LEADS and ARF Ontario did an amazing job organizing this event. Sponsors from across London and beyond provided great help in staging the event.
Two large ponds for the dogs to swim and dive into
Over a dozen dog rescue organizations which help specific breeds and all breeds
Fun events like face painting and crafts for children who attended with their parents
