"El Presidente.... El Perfecto" - Dennis Martinez's Perfect Game 20 Years Later

You can reach Kevin Glew's Canadian Baseball Blog "Cooperstown in Canada by clicking here

It seems fitting that former Expos broadcaster Dave Van Horne was honoured by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in the same week as the 20th anniversary of Dennis Martinez’s perfect game.

Van Horne’s inspired call of “El Presidente … El Perfecto” on July 28, 1991 was one of the most memorable in Canadian baseball history.

It’s hard to believe that 20 years have passed since Martinez disposed of 27 consecutive Dodgers in a 2-0 win at Chavez Ravine to become the only pitcher from a Canadian team to author a perfect game.

Employing 80 per cent fastballs, the pencil-thin, 36-year-old right-hander, who was the first big leaguer from Nicaragua, stifled a Dodgers lineup that included Brett Butler, Eddie Murray and Darryl Strawberry.

Blue Jays Involved in a 3 Team 11 Player Trade - There's Pennant Fever in MLB!

It's that time of year again. There are only 3 days left before the trade deadline and teams making a run at the pennant are making trades and bringing up players from the minors and sending others down. Players not performing well, but are unwanted on the trade market are simply bought out or released.

Teams that don't have any chance at the playoffs are looking ahead to next year. They are ready to trade young prospects and veterans who might have a little bit more gas in the tank. Teams with even a hope of making the playoffs will do just about anything to keep that hope alive.

The Blue Jays, St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox pulled off an 11 player trade today that will see 5 new players join the Jays. Click Here to Read the Whole Story on the Major League Baseball Site.

Recycling Bins Set Ablaze - Melted into Asphalt in Kipps Lane Area

During Early Morning Hours

Recycling Bins like these Melted Right into Asphalt

Last Weekend 3 or 4 Sturdy Blue Bins Like these we're melted into the asphalt underneath them in the garbage enclosure where we live.  You had to look very closely for any sign of the blue plastic amidst the black asphalt.

Fire Trucks came in the early morning hours to our complex to put out the fire which is surrounded by a wooden fence and very dry grass due to the current drought.

Thanks to the London Fire Department, the Fire did not spread.

Thankfully this incident didn't involve guns or personal injury like so many others have.
