To call Frank Chauvin a local hero is an understatement as long as the Detroit River. After a visit to Haiti in 1988 he chose to take early retirement from the Windsor Police Services and found Le Foyer des Filles de Dieu ( The Home for Girls of God), an orphanage in Port-au-Prince.

It soon became a Windsor Mission with high school students travelling to Haiti on Spring Break to work with children and help on building projects.
