In the Kipps Lane area, it's not a question of whether there is going to be serious crime. It's a matter of when it occurs and of severity. The damage done to Ross in the recent break-in to Ross was reported at $400,00 in the London Free Press. Read Joe Belanger's entire column by clicking here.
Ross is also home to the office of the Kipps Lane Initiative. The City Initiative was unveiled over a year ago. To this point it has provided some recreational programs and undertaken a massive study in the area.
The purpose of the study and the release date of its results remain unknown. A separate study of the area was completed in 2006 by the London InterCommunity Health Centre. It identified the key problems in the area such as social isolation, poor transportation, lack of facilities for community and recreation services and issues relating to social services. What exactly the City expects to gain from its massive house to house study is unknown. The LIHC study was thorough and complete.
Over the past month we have had strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms coupled with heavy lightning in the area. Most of us have some kind of surge protectors on our computers and electronic devices. We assumed we were protected. Wrong.
I lost an old, inexpensive but perfectly trusty scanner, a friend lost a 2 week old $800 telesion. Another friend had her whole computer due to a blow out. When I purchased my new scanner, the salesman told me he had four or five other "lightning victims" who lost electronics due to recent lightning storms. While one can't be 100% sure it was the lightning, all fingers point towards the powerful bolts in the sky.
If you head down to the Huron/Highbury location this summer on Wednesday nights around 6:00 pm you will get more than a Mozzaburger and a Frosty Root Beer. To start with you can see Tony and his '87 Fiero GT in Mint condition. Look at Photo at right.
London Car Clubs and A & W have teamed up for a Summer Cruze each Wednesday night in the parking lot next to A & W.
The event is free but you can buy some 50/50 tickets to help raise money for research into Cystic Fibrosis. Tunes from the 50's and 60's are played from a lovingly restored Pinto and dedicated volunteers keep the tunes coming and sell the 50/50 tickets.
So come on out next Wednesday at the Huron Highbury A & W location. You won't be disappointed.
