New Stoney Creek Public School Only Has a Few More Hurdles to Climb
Construction on a new elementary school will be begin on Nicole Avenue, north of Fanshawe Park Rd. this July if funding from the Provincial government comes through and the Thames Valley Board gives approval for the design, schedule, budget and tenders at a Board meeting on April 21st. If the project begins on July 1st as hoped students could be attending the new school in September of 2010.
The cost of the new school is currently pegged at $12.1 million dollars. It has been designed with a double gym, 3 Kindergarten/Prekindergarten areas, a developmental center, soccer fields, several play areas, a computer lab with 30 computers, a vocal and instrumental General Arts Classroom and planning for a small future addition. Of course the entire design and all features as well as the cost must be approved by the Thames Valley District School Board.
The long awaited school will be built on a parcel of land in subdivisons which are already built. It will be a welcome sight for parents. Many of their children currently attend Northridge Public School and Northdale Public School which are just south of Fanshawe Park Road. Northridge Park Road is also slated to receive additional space if Provincial funding comes through.
Once the Northridge addition is complete and Stoney Creek Public School is up and running Northdale Public School on Tennant Avenue will be deemed surplus and slated for closure. That date is uncertain. If all funding requests are approved students could be attending the new Stoney Creek Public School in September of 2010.
There will be a public information meeting organized by the Thames Valley Board on the additions to Northridge Public School in Northridge's gym on April 16th at 7 pm.
