Beloved Tiger Pitcher Mark "The Bird" Fydrch died on Monday on his farm while repairing his truck. He had retired to a small town after his major league baseball days were over. He was married with children and he had a farm and a trucking business.

London was full of Detroit Tiger fans long before the Blue Jays came on the scene. There are still some Tiger fans around London but there numbers are dwindling. Many older fans though remember "The Bird" and his routines of patting down the mound before each inning and talking to the ball before each pitch.

The Bird was a fan favourite long past his playing days in Detroit. He came back regularly for appearances at games, reunions and autograph signings. His death leaves a huge hole in the hearts of long time Tiger fans. Click here to see a photo library of photos I've collected from on-line tributes to the Bird.
