Media Advisory:
Date: Monday April 20, 2009
From: Kate Young, Manager Public Affairs, Thames Valley District School Board
_________________________________________________________________________________

Lorne Avenue Public School in London will reopen Tuesday morning April 21, 2009.  The school, located on Lorne Avenue was evacuated by London Police on Monday afternoon during a lengthy police standoff with an individual who lives near the school.  The standoff ended peacefully late Monday afternoon.

All programs at the school including JK to Grade 8 classes run by the Thames Valley District School Board will be open as usual Tuesday morning.  As well, community programs offered at the school such as the YMCA Daycare, English as a Second Language, and the London Learning Clinic will also be open as usual Tuesday morning.

We wish to express our appreciation to the London media for helping the Thames Valley District School Board notify Lorne Avenue parents and partners about the evacuation.  With your help we were able to notify parents and guardians about the evacuation and guarantee the safe return home of all of our students.  Thank you for your help in this regard.
