The Northeastender.ca Serves London by Welcoming Community News
I could see the looks of doubt in people's faces when I told them what I believed the Northeastender.ca would accomplish once built, launched and put on-line for a minimum of two years. I told them that my dream of a site where more and more content would actually come from the community. I have eight years of community journalism experience in London (published) and 5 years elsewhere in different freelance writing work. That was a big help in producing quality content for the site and gathering news from sources which provided material.

As the site became better known, I wanted to contribute less content and slowly manage what was sent to me. Well, it's beginning to happen in the Northeastender.ca's second year. Over 300,000 hits have been recorded and analyzed by the statistical software built into the site and I know exactly what readers want to read and want to contribute.
The naysayers and doubters especially at the City of London which ironically provided some seed money for the site through the Creative Cities Neighbourhood Initiative (CC-NI) were simply wrong. Northeast London and Londoners all over the City are logging onto the site in large numbers daily to the point where I need to plan for the future of the site. I own it. It is a commmunity service to London. No advertising. That's not what it's about.
In the meantime take a look at the list of groups which send and have sent me media releases, events and information which I post faithfully on the Northeastender.ca . I am careful to point out that the fact that the provision of media releases by any group for dissemination does not indicate in any way shape or form an endorsement of the web site, the articles or any of the content on the Northeastender.ca.
This list does not include individuals who have signed up to the site as members or send me content via email for me to post. Every article has an indication attached to it as to where the material came from near the headline and/or in the body of the text.
