LONDONERS INVITED TO EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF MOZART
AT COMMUNITY EVENTS

LONDON – Londoners are invited to experience the wonder of Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute at several community events being held in anticipation of May 30th’s opening night at The Grand Theatre.

Free community concerts

The musical magic begins with a free performance of Joseph Heidenreich’s Music from The Magic Flute, April 30 at White Oaks Mall. Oboists Ian Franklin and Jennifer Short, clarinetists Graham Lord and Marie Johnson, bassoonists Spencer Phillips and David Haward, French horn players Ron George and Kate Stone and bassist Joseph Phillips perform this chamber arrangement of the opera’s greatest hits between 2 and 4 p.m.

A few days later, the same ensemble plays a free encore performance upstairs at the Covent Garden Market, May 2 between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

Free Lunch & Learn

On May 20th, Orchestra London board vice president Dr. Joseph Gilbert, leads a free Lunch and Learn, 12:15 at the London Public Library’s central branch. “The Magic Flute is being performed somewhere around the world every night of the year,” says the opera aficionado. “It has been one of the most popular operas since its first performance in 1791.”

Not only is the music sublime, but the storyline works on many levels. It’s a fairy tale, a struggle between good and evil, and a commentary on Freemasonry, Dr. Gilbert explains. “This is an opera that even children will love,” he says. Bring your lunch and catch his excitement!

Behind the Scenes of The Magic Flute

Maestro Timothy Vernon, director Glynis Leyshon and principal cast members will be on hand to discuss this brand new Magic Flute production, May 23 at Windermere on the Mount Retirement Residence, 2:30 pm. The $20 ticket price includes an informal presentation, interactive chat, some impromptu singing and afternoon tea. Organized by the Volunteer Committee Orchestra London, all proceeds support the opera initiative.
