Canadian Idol judge Farley Flex – sometimes called the “Mountain of Soul with a heart of gold” – will bring his message of community service to this year’s eighth annual Student Leadership Awards in Safe Schools tomorrow, May 20th, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Flex, who has managed several successful recording artists, is a National Ambassador for UNICEF and a recipient of the Bob Marley Community Role Model Award for his commitment to community development – especially as it pertains to youth.
The Thames Valley District School Board presents the awards to students from qualifying secondary schools throughout Thames Valley in partnership with the Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System, The Fourth R, and Crime Stoppers.
Students have been selected on the basis of their commitment to Safe Schools and their contributions in the following areas: assemblies, committees, peer facilitating, drama presentations, volunteer work, shelter work, Youth Safe Schools Committees, Gay-Straight Alliance Committees, Crime Stoppers, and work with elementary students.
Award winners and their families have been invited to attend an appreciation night tomorrow, when students will be recognized for their contributions and receive a certificate and plaque.
