The Windsor Spitfires jumped out to an early 3 goal lead in the title match at the Memorial Cup and coasted to a 4-1 victory to win their first ever Memorial Cup since entering the Ontario Hockey League in 1976. They came close in 1988 but fell short to Medicine Hat in the Final 7-6.
The Spitfires are the first team to ever come back from an 0-2 start in the Tournament and win the Memorial Cup. Their strong forechecking and stellar netminding kept Kelowna from getting back in the game.
