TransGlobe Kipps Lane - London - Hits New Low -

Panhandler Plys Trade in Center of 600 Unit Complex on Sunday July 5th

"I wonder how long it will be before she brings her friends with her."

I thought I was safe from panhandlers when I came home. Don't get me wrong. I'm as compassionate as the next guy but there are limits.

On July 5th, I looked up to walk down the sidewalk to my building and there stood a 50 year old heavily made up woman with a spaced out look asking me for spare change.

She stood at the geographic center of our 6 building, 600 unit complex which is home to many seniors and disabled.

Disgusted, I said no and walked in my door and went to my unit. I recognized her from the shopping plaza at Adelaide & Huron. It's a rare day that you can  go there for a coffee or go shopping and not get asked for change or be propositioned in one way or another.

I informed TransGlobe staff from top to bottom and the only one who seemed to really take it seriously was our Building Manager. Unfortunately he is the one with the least power. I'm still waiting for the return call from TransGlobe's Regional Manager, Marsha Bergeron. I didn't inform these people out of altruism.

I did it because this TransGlobe complex has reached a new low and I wondered if anything would shock this Landlord. Apparently not, for the most part.

I called the Police and they told me that they would let cars in the area know. I guess that's a good response. Then again I wish he would have logged the call and took my name for Police statistics because that's what counts at Police Board meetings. I receive the agendas and I read them.

I would have provided my name and address. Isn't that what London cops are pleading with the public to do? Get involved.

Lastly, I let a writer I'm acquainted with at the Free Press know for his future records. The crime has been moving northwards for some time. I wonder how long it will be before she brings her friends with her.

I came across your article and read it because I thought it was going to be about the building or TransGlobe employees in particular. I too live in a TransGlobe building in Westmount and although I'd say the area is fine ad we don't have the kind of problems you're talking about, I have had A LOT of problems with TransGlobe and their representatives. If I had to go into the hell they've put me through, broken agreements, no returned phone calls after calling and calling and calling and leaving messages etc. It could take up pages and pages. What's been your experience renting from them?

We've experienced everything you have during TransGlobe's ownership of the Kipps Lane Properties. The turnover of Transglobe staff is unbelievable. They seem to have substituted heaps of marketing and promises for reliable property management at all levels. The only real solution is to save up and rent with a better company. We have been with Transglobe for seven long years and it hasn't been out of choice.
