Meet CLEO - It Could Be a Tenant's Best Friend - & it's Free
CLEO is a community legal clinic, founded in 1974, that specializes in public legal education.
CLEO is administered by a volunteer board of directors, and funded by Legal Aid Ontario and the Department of Justice Canada. Staff include lawyers, editors and support staff.
I was browsing the pamphlets on the racks of the Central Library and I came across a great one titled "Can Your LandlordTake Your Stuff."
Coincidentally I had received a call that week from a frantic tenant who had found the Kipps Lane Tenant Association Web Site.
His Landlord had disposed of his belongings during a lengthy absence of his from his apartment. I knew it was a tricky legal situation and I referred him to the Duty Counsel at the Landlord Tenant Board.
But I had loads of questions. This booklet produced by CLEO (Community Legal Education of Ontario) gave an amazing amount of information in an easy to understand format. I looked inside and found out that CLEO has booklets like this one on many types of law in Ontario. many are on-line.
