Dark in the morning and Dark in the evening

It has certainly been noticeable that the mornings are now darker as people make their way to work and school and the evenings are darker earlier as pedestrians, cyclists and motorists make their back home or to other destinations.

The London Police want to get the message out to all three groups; take the extra precautions to improve your safety.  Pedestrians should wear bright reflective clothing and should cross the street only when it is safe to do so.

Cyclists should also be highly visible with the required lights and reflective clothing.

Obeying the rules of the road is also very important to safety.  Motorists should remind themselves that pedestrians and cyclists can be difficult to see and unpredictable in their movements.  Slow down and pay attention. During the first nine months of 2008 there were 165 collisions involving pedestrians and 115 collisions involving cyclists.  So far in 2009 there have been 107 collisions involving pedestrians and 115 collisions involving cyclists.  There is always room for improvement when saving lives is concerned.Sgt.
