IT'S THE LAW

Every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on ervery storey and just outside of every sleeping area.

Landlords are responsible for making sure their rental properties comply with the law.

Tenants cannot tamper with smoke alarms or disable them in any way.

Failure to comply with the law can result in a $235 ticket or fines of up to $50,000 for individuals & $100,000 for corporations.

SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES

Installed maintained propertly, smoke alarms give you the precious time you need to escape when every second counts.

Most fatal fires start at night when people are sleeping so alarms must be located near sleeping areas.

In the event of the fire, smoke alarms are your most effective early warning devices.

Batteries should be tested once a month and replaced every year.
