HST Exemption News from Deb Matthews MPP London North Centre
Dear Friends,
I know you're interested in what's happening with the harmonized sales tax (HST) and so I'm happy to tell you about some new exemptions.
The McGuinty government listened to Ontarians when they gave us their thoughts on items that should be exempted from the HST and we've now exempted regularly printed newspapers and some prepared foods. Qualifying food and beverages, like your morning coffee, are ones that are ready for immediate consumption and sold for a total price of not more than $4.00.
These new exemptions join a list that includes books, children's clothing, children's footwear, car seats, diapers and feminine hygiene products. You may wish to read more about Ontario's tax plan at the website: ontario.ca/revenue-news.
Thanks for this chance to pass along an update and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any comments or questions. It's important to me.
