Volunteers needed for 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Community Celebration

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will be stopping in London for the Community Celebration Ceremony on Thursday, December 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Victoria Park. London will require approximately 50 volunteers to assist with this event.

Volunteers are needed to assist with event logistics, set-up and take down, security and other event related tasks. Volunteers must be available to work the full day on December 24, and some may require additional training on days prior to the event.

Heavy lifting may be involved with some volunteer positions. “The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay is an amazing opportunity for London to showcase our community and participate in this national event on a local level.  Volunteers will play a vital role in making this event a success,” said Joni Baechler, Ward 5 Councillor.Londoners interested in volunteering can pick up a form at the Parks and Recreation Customer Service Office located on Market Tower, 4th floor, 151 Dundas Street, online at www.london.ca/torch or call Lina D’Oria at 519 661-2500 ext. 5230.  The deadline to apply is Friday, December 11. Celebration details will be released at a later date for all those interested in attending this once-in-a-generation Community Celebration in honour of the Olympic Flame!
