To call Frank Chauvin a local hero is an understatement as long as the Detroit River. After a visit to Haiti in 1988 he chose to take early retirement from the Windsor Police Services and found Le Foyer des Filles de Dieu ( The Home for Girls of God), an orphanage in Port-au-Prince.
I recall Mr. Chauvin's visit to a United Church that I attended in the nineties when I still lived in Windsor. He described the work in Haiti and spoke of the obstacles that were in his way. He is humble and devoted to this mission. This wasn't just a Catholic Mission. It soon became a Windsor Mission with high school students travelling to Haiti on Spring Break to work with children and help on building projects.
