Mr. Joe Hoffer, Chair of the London Police Services Board, today announced the retirement of Chief of Police, Murray Faulkner, effective July 31, 2010.
Mr. Hoffer added, “Chief Faulkner's leadership of this Police Service has been conducted with vision, integrity and respect for the traditions of community policing.
His contributions have been recognized nationally and internationally and this community, in particular, will benefit from his legacy for years to come. As a Board, and as a community, we owe Chief Faulkner a tremendous debt of gratitude for his exemplary and honourable tenure as Chief of the London Police Service."Chief Faulkner was hired by the London Police Service as a police constable in February 1975 and has served in various areas of the Service, including: Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigation, Traffic and Community Services, and as the Service’s first Media Relations Officer. His command positions have included: Duty Inspector; Inspector, Personnel Services Branch; Superintendent, Corporate Services Division; and Superintendent, Uniformed Division. In November 2000, he was promoted to Deputy Chief, Operations, and in April 2002, he assumed the position of Deputy Chief, Administration. He was officially sworn in as Chief of Police on April 2, 2004. Chief Faulkner attended Sir Wilfred Laurier Secondary School and Fanshawe College, in London, and has completed numerous police-related training courses and lectured at the Ontario Police College and the Canadian Police College. He is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto.During his tenure with the London Police Service, Chief Faulkner has held a strong belief in giving back to your community, having served on many boards including: The London Family Court Clinic, Family Service London, the Canadian Cancer Society, Fanshawe Pioneer Village, and the YMCA of Western Ontario. He is the past Chair of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and sits on the International Association of Chiefs of Police Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Chief Faulkner also held the position of Senior Regional Director of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council, Western Ontario Region. In 2007, Chief Faulkner chaired the United Way Campaign for London and Middlesex, and continues to serve as the Chair of United Way Leadership Giving. In 2008, Chief Faulkner was appointed to the National Board of Directors for Special Olympics Canada. Among his numerous awards, he was honoured in 2008 by being inducted to the Police Order of Merit as an Officer, and in 2009, he was recognized by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police with the President’s Award of Merit. The members of the Police Services Board would like to wish Chief Faulkner and his family the very best of health and happiness in his retirement.
