City to honour local Olympians The City of London is planning a community wide celebration to honour the achievements of our local Olympians. “Christine Nesbitt’s gold medal in the 1000-metre speed skating makes all Londoners proud,” said Deputy Mayor Tom Gosnell. “In fact, we are proud of all six of our local athletes and we will honour them and give Londoners an opportunity to show their support and admiration.” Olympic Flag in Victoria Park - Dec. 24th 2009 The Deputy Mayor also said he would introduce a motion at Council Monday night to officially recognize the athletes and ask administration to begin planning an appropriate “welcome home” event. “Christine’s gold medal is just the start,” the Deputy Mayor said. “Our local athletes are poised to win more medals and we will be cheering them on every step of the way.” Our local athletes are: CHRISTINE NESBITT: Speed skating — long track Date of Birth: May 17, 1985
