YOUTH CREATE HEALTHY COMMUNITIES LAUNCHES YOUTH FOCUSED PHOTO CONTEST FOR IMMEDATE RELEASE March 12, 2010 LONDON, ON ─ Youth Create Healthy Communities, a partnership of the London Youth Council and the Middlesex-London Health Unit, is calling on young people across the City of London to get snapping over the next month. Through a Youth’s Eyes: Capturing an Issue is a photo contest being launched today that challenges those between the ages of 13 and 24, to use photography to capture their unique perspective on one of six important issues for today’s youth. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: - “Eat Well, Get Active” - Healthy Eating and Physical Activity
- “Social Justice” - Employment, Poverty, Social Assistance
- “Community Safety” - Safe Communities, Violence, Justice System
- “The Forest City” - Cleanliness, Environment, Recycling, City Life
- “Personal Wellbeing” - Substance Abuse, Sexual Health, Mental Health
- "More Than a Book" - Literacy in its Many Forms
The contest categories were chosen based on dialogues with more than 100 youths, conducted as part of the Youth Create Healthy Communities initiative. The contest is associated with London’s upcoming celebration of National Youth Week, which runs from May 1st to May 7th). Winners will be selected at a youth issues conference called Momentum: Moving Forward Together, which is being held on Saturday, May 1st as a kick-off to National Youth Week. Participants can enter the contest by visiting the London Youth Council’s Facebook page up to and including April 15th. All images must be uploaded to the Council’s Facebook page in the appropriate category folder and include a statement of 50 words or less that explains the photograph.
