LONDON - Today, the London Youth Council launched the “Through a Youth’s Eyes: Capturing an Issue” photo contest which challenges youth, aged 13 to 24, to use photography to capture their unique perspective on one of six key youth issues. Prizes will be awarded to the young person who a youth committee determines has best captured an issue within the following categories:
“Eat Well, Get Active” - Healthy Eating and Physical Activity
“Social Justice” - Employment, Poverty, Social Assistance
“Community Safety” - Safe Communities, Violence, Justice System
“The Forest City” - Cleanliness, Environment, Recycling, City Life
“Personal Well being” - Substance Abuse, Sexual Health, Mental Health
"More Than a Book" - Literacy in its Many Forms
Entries will be accepted at the “London Youth Council” Facebook page until April 15th. Submissions must be uploaded directly onto Facebook in the appropriate category folder on the “London Youth Council” Facebook page and include a 50 word or less statement. Multiple entries accepted.
The issues are derived from dialogues with over 100 youth conducted as part of the Youth Create Healthy Communities initiative. Youth from around London have identified concerns for their community related to these six themes. The contest itself will tie into the Youth Create Healthy Communities initiative and London’s upcoming celebration of National Youth Week (May 1st to 7th). Winners will be selected at “Momentum: Moving Forward Together,” a youth issues conference held as part of the two initiatives, on Saturday, May 1st.
About the London Youth Council
The London Youth Council is an independent, volunteer run, organization of youth (aged 13 to 24). All work is for youth, by youth. Our priorities are to build the sense of community among London's youth groups, to develop opportunities for youth to provide input on issues that matter to them, and to represent London's youth movement on a larger scale. The London Youth Council coordinates London’s celebration of National Youth Week in London and is a partner in the Youth Create Healthy Communities initiative.
