GOODWILL LAUNCHES NEW OUTLET AND WITH DELL EXPANDS COMPUTER

RECYCLING PROGRAMS

Consumers Can Drop Off Computers for Recycling at Goodwill’s brand new Outlet Store

Media Release: April 30, 2010

London, Ontario - Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes is opening a new Recycling Hub and Outlet at 990 Pond Mills Rd.  With its launch, and in partnership with Dell Canada Inc., Goodwill is expanding Reconnect, a free drop-off program for consumers who want to responsibly recycle any brand of unwanted computer or accessory equipment.    The Goodwill Outlet Store has evolved and moved from its previous location at 255 Horton (previously “Buy the Pound” Shop) to its brand new home. This move will allow Goodwill to enhance its recycling and last chance sales program.  A larger volume of goods that do not sell in retail stores across southwestern Ontario will be given a second chance at being sold by the pound at the new Outlet. Clothing for example sells for $1.25 per pound.

Goodwill Outlet Store is proud to welcome the Dell Reconnect program to the services provided at this location.  All Goodwill donation centres will accept computer equipment beginning May 15th.  The goal of Goodwill’s partnership with Dell-Reconnect is to offer consumers a free, convenient and responsible way to recycle used computers and computer equipment. The items are either resold or sorted into parts and readied to be recycled.

The revenue from the recycled computer equipment supports Goodwill’s job training and employment services programs.
There are more than 1400 Goodwill donation locations that participate in the Reconnect program across North America.   This is the first expansion into Canada. “The Dell-Reconnect partnership with Goodwill is a great model for the technology industry,” said Michelle Quintyn, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes.

“The partnership has not only allowed Goodwill to responsibly recycle and divert more than 79 million pounds of electronic equipment from the landfills, but also create ‘green-collar’ jobs and skills training at a time when both are very much needed.”
Through its extensive recycling options for consumers, small and medium businesses, large enterprises and governments worldwide, Dell reached its goal to recycle 275 million pounds of equipment ahead of schedule.

The company was the first IT vendor to set product recovery goals in 2004, completed the rollout of its global recycling program in 2006 and now offers a free worldwide recycling program for consumers.
“We believe it should be as easy to recycle a computer as it is to purchase one,” said Mike Watson, senior manager of Dell Global Recycling Services.  “Our partnership with Goodwill makes recycling incredibly convenient for consumers.

It helps create jobs and preserve our planet at the same time, which makes the program a win-win all the way around.”
Join us on Saturday May 1st at 990 Pond Mills Rd. (south of the 401 and north of Wilton Grove Rd.) as we celebrate our new Outlet Store and the launch the Dell Reconnect program.  Goodwill is encouraging area resident’s to bring down their used computers and computer equipment for this event. For more information about the Dell Reconnect Program visit: www.reconnectpartnership.com.
