POLICE WEEK 2010Police Week in Ontario is an annual event dedicated to promoting crime prevention, recognition, and awareness of policing services in the community. This year, May 9-15, 2010 will be designated Police Week in Ontario.
The theme this year is: “Building Partnerships for a Safer Community.
”The London Police Service has planned the following events:
Monday, May 10, 2010“Chief for the Day” This year there will be two co-chiefs. The selected male and female students are both Special Olympic athletes from Saunders Secondary School and will be attending London Police Headquarters at 7:45 am to meet the Chief and senior officers and attend the morning meeting.
The co-chiefs will then be off to the Children’s Safety Village, the Ontario Police College and then to their classroom at Saunders Secondary School. The students will be chaperoned by Constable Carl Noel and Constable Monique Silcox for the day.
There will be a photo opportunity for the “Chief for the day” at 7:45 am in the second floor executive office area at the London Police Service. Media are welcome to attend.Tuesday, May 11, 2010 “Building Partnerships Day” There will be a Mall display at Cherryhill Mall between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. The London Police Service has invited the community partners of Neighbourhood Watch London, London Block Parents and Crime Stoppers of London Elgin and Middlesex to join them for the day.
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 “Safety for Senior’s BBQ Day” The London Police Service is hosting a free barbecue for the seniors of London at the Kiwanis Senior Centre, 78 Riverside Drive between 11:30 am and 1 pm. London Police Services senior officers are attending to assist at the barbecue. This barbecue is offered in partnership with Scotiabank, Cherryhill Village Mall, Darlo Enterprises Inc., Gary’s No Frills and Tim Horton’s at Baseline and Wharncliffe.
Thursday, May 13, 2010 “Lock it or lose it” Auxiliary Blitz The London Police Service will be attending the Mall parking lots throughout the city to canvass vehicles and hand out the “lock it or lose it” educational pamphlets throughout the entire day.
Friday, May 14, 2010 “Traffic Safety Day” The London Police Service Traffic Management Unit will be highlighting the traffic safety theme for May on this day. This month’s themes include bicycle safety, licence plates and impaired driving through enforcement as the long weekend approaches.
