Although its called the “two plate special” it’s much more than that! During the month of May officers will be keeping an eye on motorists who don’t obey the law with regards to licence plates on their motor vehicles.
Every motor vehicle (except motorcycles…we’ll get to them) is required to have two plates, one mounted on the front and one on the back in a clearly visible location and in good condition. This means free of rust, dirt or coloured plastic covers that make a white plate look yellow. It also requires owners of expensive cars to ensure the front plate is mounted on the front bumper and not lying on the dash in the front windshield.Motorists are encouraged to check the condition of the licence plates and get new ones if they are in such poor condition that it makes it difficult to read at a glance (from a reasonable distance). With regards to motorcycles; officers will be ensuring that their licence plates aren’t turned sideways making it difficult to read or hidden up under the rear fender.Plainly visible licence plates make it easy to identify vehicles. Whether it’s a hit and run collision, a suspicious motorist trying to pick up children or an impaired driver, everyone (not just the police) benefit when motorists comply with this law.The “two plate special” is back!Sgt Tom O’Brien
