The London Police Services Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Brad Duncan as London’s Chief of Police effective August 1, 2010.
Brad Duncan has been with the London Police Service for 30 years and is currently the Deputy Chief of Operations. Nearly half of his career has been spent in the Criminal Investigation Division where he was the officer in charge of the Major Crime and Sexual Assault Sections.
He has been responsible for the introduction of major case management practices within the London Police Service and has lectured on the subject nationally and internationally.
He is currently responsible for the Uniformed and Criminal Investigation Divisions of the London Police Service. He continues to be an advocate for the use of technology to facilitate the operational and administrative needs of policing. Deputy Chief Duncan has served on numerous boards and committees, including the London Child Abuse Council, the Child Witness Project, the Family Consultant Advisory Council, Family Service Thames Valley and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System.
He is also past Chair of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Common Police Environment Committee and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Police Research Centre.
He is also a member of the Fanshawe College Board of Governors. Deputy Chief Duncan is a dedicated London community member and leader, and has a lengthy testimonial of his commitment to families in our community, including involvement in the Special Olympics Torch Run, Cops for Cancer, the Sunshine Dream Lift, Scouts Canada, Minor Sports and many other local organizations. Deputy Chief Duncan has an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, is a graduate of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police College, Executive Development Course, has a diploma in Police Management Studies from the University of Western Ontario and the Ontario Police College, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Virginia.
He is a recipient of the RCMP Commissioner’s Commendation for his work in major case management. On May 22, 2008 he was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Services by her Excellency Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. This announcement follows the retirement of Murray Faulkner as the Chief of Police of the London Police Service, effective July 31, 2010. Chief Faulkner provided strong leadership, vision and encouragement to all levels of the organization to ensure our community and organizational priorities were met.
Chief Faulkner has had a proud and distinguished career in policing and has served this community for 35 years with honour, integrity, compassion and a strong belief in giving back to the community as shown by his venerable involvement with many boards and organizations.
The Board extends to him our sincere appreciation for his service and our hope for a healthy and vibrant retirement. It is responsible for the provision of adequate and effective police services to the City of London’s population of approximately 378,000.
