THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF LONDON

July 19, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This summer heat got you thirsty?

Finding local restaurants, City facilities and businesses willing to fill reusable drinking bottles with municipal tap water for free will soon be easy, thanks to the Blue W program.

Blue W is a not-for-profit program supported by the  City of London. Blue W offers an online directory, searchable map and shop front window decal signage to help encourage people to consider tap water as a healthy and safe option for quenching their thirst when out and about.

“The Blue W program provides the City with an opportunity to partner with local businesses, provide more access to tap water, and promote the high quality drinking water that London should be proud of,” says Matt Feldberg, Water Demand Manager for the City of London.

The program officially launched in London this spring with volunteers applying Blue W decals in the windows of more than 60 participating businesses, libraries and community centres. Londoners can have their reusable water bottle filled with tap water free of charge at these participating partnerlocations.

For details on participating partners in London visit bluew.org. There is also a participant registration page on the Blue W website for businesses interested in becoming a part of the program.

"Refill your reusable bottle anywhere across the nation. It's really that straightforward," says Evan Pilkington, Director of Blue W. "London is a city full of people who appreciate the quality of their tap water. Helping provide residents and visitors greater access to safe, clean municipal tap water is what Blue W is all about.”
