This project has significantly extended the life of the pool by replacing the pool tank, installing a new deck and heater, and upgrading the mechanical equipment.
Two sun shelters were added, upgrades to the bathhouse and change rooms include accessibility features and landscaping enhancements have improved the overall visibility and presence in the community. It is now easier for London’s residents to stay active for many more summers to come.
The governments of Canada and Ontario have each committed up to $693,000 to the project, while the City of London will contribute the balance of the total project cost of more than $2 million.
Hundreds of Children, Teens and Adults who live next to the Pool will make great use of this excellent facility this summer and in the coming years . Councillor Swan asked the children and teens at pool side to be "ambassadors" for this excellent facility. He encouraged them to help keep it in good condition.
M.P. for London North Centre Susan Truppe added that "The Northeast Outdoor Pool revitalization project will ensure that families in London have a modern aquatic facility that promotes physical activity and healthy living for people of all ages," said MP Truppe.
"Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, we are creating jobs and enhancing the quality of life for residents today and for generations to come.
M.P.P. Deb Matthew for London North Centre also added. "I'm pleased that Ontario's Building Together plan is creating healthier, more active communities. In London, our plan is helping to repair, rebuild and renew our sport facilities, providing great spaces for families to enjoy.
London Mayor Joe Fontana echoed the sentiments of MP Truppe and MPP Matthews. “Once again, the cooperation and partnership between our three levels of government has resulted in an improved quality of life for Londoners. Social and recreational infrastructure is part of what makes our community vibrant and energized. I encourage everyone to stay active, be active and enjoy this outstanding facility.”
This project is one of more than 760 across the province that is moving forward thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $380 million under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program in Ontario and the Ontario Recreation Program (Ontario REC).
The governments of Canada and Ontario teamed up to support Ontario's communities and create jobs by improving recreational infrastructure, as these types of projects also encourage higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building
