Non-Violent Protest Advocated by the Late Martin Luther King Jr. (Civil Rights Leader)
Beal Student Protest Against Tasering of Student involved in Fight
About Two years ago I witnessed a protest by students in front of City Hall that was very similar to the one just held against the LPS Officer who used a Taser device to subdue a youth involved in a fight.
In both demonstrations there were angry and sometimes vulgar chants and bad feelings when the protest ended. I wondered what the reaction would be when images of the latest protest hit the evening news and the next day's newspapers. Did the protest actually accomplish any of its goals?
I grew up in the post civil rights era of the seventies and I have studied Dr. King Jr.'s deep beliefs in non-violent protest. I think they are worth a look at in light of the events of the past week in London.
"From his deep studies of Gandhi and his own experience, Martin Luther King Jr. developed a list of six facts to help people understand non-violent resistance and join with him in his vision."
