The long-awaited trial of Jodie Hoogstra into the stabbing death of Matthew Owen near Arbour Glen and Kipps Lane began on October 3rd.

The alleged murder occurred on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14) 2009 just outside of 1050 Kipps Lane which is home to a strip plaza on Kipps Lane. It's unclear exactly where the alleged stabbing occurred but the event included events in this plaza.
This event shocked the neighbourhood for various reasons including the gruesome nature of the murder. There was no official public reaction by then sitting City Councillors for Ward 3 or 4: Bernie Macdonald (Ward 3) and Stephen Orser (Ward 4). Kipps Lane is the dividing line between the two wards.
