Council Briefs for Council Meeting on November 21, 2011



Acting Mayor Bud Polhill presented a plaque to London’s Featured Company,Great Lakes Copper and to London’s Featured Community Organization, theLondon Community Foundation.

·           Council received an update on theCity’s Workplace Diversity Statement and Plan, and approved revised terms of reference for the Diversity Task Force to allow for participation by representatives from external organizations. In addition, representatives from the City of London’s agencies, boards and commissions will be encouraged to participate on the task force.

·            Council discussed the name and logo of London’s newest baseball team. Last week Council relayed its serious concerns about the name through thisstatement issued to media and to the team last week.

·       

Council voted to ask for a bylaw to be drafted that would ban shark fin products within the City of London.

·CcoCouncil  received anupdate from the Community Engagement Task Force which has been developing a policy on community engagement

·                Council confirmed the membership of each of the new Council Committees (page 2-3).

·C        Council approved the Water and Wastewater budgets which will result in increases of eight and seven per cent respectively. The typical homeowner will see a cost increase of 6 cents to 87 cents per day for water, and 8 cents to $1.28 per day for wastewater services, including both sanitary and storm sewers.
