City crews dealing with season’s first heavy snowfall
The City’s entire snow plow fleet of 65 plows, 25 sanders/salters and 37 sidewalk plows was deployed at 11 p.m. last night and continues in operation this morning.
All main streets and bus runs have been plowed and some progress was made on side streets. Sidewalk plows started at 2 a.m. with the focus on main street sidewalks.
As of rush hour this morning, main streets and bus routes were in good shape. Local streets will remain the focus this morning and some plows will be working this afternoon.
Plans are being made to re-deploy the fleet again tonight.
Garbage and recycling collection have started on schedule in Zone E (Cleardale, Ponds Mills, Summerside, Westminster Park) but the snowfall coupled with the 4-container exemption and extra materials generated from the holidays could make collection slow going.
The City does not offer individual snow removal services such as removing snow from the end of driveways. Homeowners are asked to seek assistance from neighbours or family members for snow removal on their properties. This has not changed from past years.
