The Business and Hobby of buying, selling and collecting stamps and coins is not dead. Many people like to portray such hobbies as passe now that we have the internet, gaming and all kinds of other distractions.  Image

Take a look at your spare change for a day or two. Look for the new 2010 Winter Olympic quarters. Look for the occasional silver coin or an American or even Caribbean coin in your change. The world is at our fingertips but we don't pay any attention to it if it isn't plugged into the wall.

Take a look at the stamps on the letters you receive. When was the last time you received a letter from a friend or relative from Europe, Asia or Australia. Look at the stamps. They tell you a great deal about the culture, history, geography and so many other things about the country where they came from.

My father first bought me a stamp book and a bag of cancelled stamps to organize when I was home sick and I couldn't go to school back in 1974. He often showed me interesting coins he found during  bus rides home from downtown Windsor on our Saturday trips to Kresges and the United Grill for a hamburger.

Stamp and coin collecting were always hobbies shared from one person to another and carried down from one generation to another.

That is what I did last month when I handed down part of my collection to my nieces and nephew in Saskatoon.

Part of the collection came from coins from other countries purchased at Forest City Stamp and Coin. They also sold me all the proper plastic coin holders and gave me some advice.

This is a store I will return to. A great store in London's downtown.

Although I had no idea that David Dimitrie was going to do this, I'd like say that I am very appreciative. It's always nice to see people going out of their way to help others, and not asking for anything in return. Thank you very much for this article, David, and I hope it helps to stimulate Londoners to support London businesses.

I too think we need to take a good look at some other interesting hobbies that don't involve recharging batteries and sitting like zombies for hours on end.
Forest City Coins has always been an amazing place to find unique things! I used to go there for my Card Game needs, now and then I stop by just to browse what is new in the window displays and sometimes even pop my head in to check out the money they have on display inside.
