Lightning in London Area Zaps

Computers, Electronics - Tell Your Story

Over the past month we have had strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms coupled with heavy lightning in the area. Most of us have some kind of surge protectors on our computers and electronic devices. We assumed we were protected. Wrong. Image

I lost an old, inexpensive but perfectly trusty scanner, a friend lost a 2 week old $800 telesion. Another friend had her whole computer due to a blow out. When I purchased my new scanner, the salesman told me he had four or five other "lightning victims" who lost electronics due to recent lightning storms. While one can't be 100% sure it was the lightning, all fingers point towards the powerful bolts in the sky.

Short of purchasing a box full of the lastes and greatest surge protection equipment I'm going low tech. If there's even a hint of storms in the forecast everything gets turned off and the plug gets pulled. That was our old drill at home  back when my mom ruled the roost in the 70's.

You can't beat Mother Nature. Or Can You?

If you do know of a way of beating her or know where to get good advice or where to purchase a great device to protect electronic equipment from lightning the floor is yours!!
