You loved him in Politically Incorrect. You loved him in his HBO Cable Specials. - Bill Maher is at it again
You will laugh yourselves silly watching "Religulous." Bill Maher travels the world asking people about their opinions, views and beliefs about religion, any religion, any belief. Maher of course gives his blunt take on what he hears and turns the footage into a mockumentary that will with either have you laughing yourself silly or cause you to walk out of the theatre in disgust looking for a refund.
The Producer of Religulous is the same guy who put together "Borat," which was undoubtedly offensive but also revealing about how Americans saw a traveller from a distant Russian Republic travelling through the US in another mockumentary.
It's your $10.50. If you want to see a movie that makes you think, offends in places but wil cause you to think about the issues after you leave the theatre GO SEE RELIGULOUS. By the way, I think you will have some rip roaring laughs as well. Did anyone in the Old Testament actually live to 900 years? How did Noah get all the mating pairs of insects and animals in that one Love Boat?
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
We went to see Religulous tonight. For some wierd reason Silver City did not show it. We had to go to the aging Westmount Theatre. Religulous. lived up to its controversial almost shocking predictions. Still I knew what I was getting with Bill Maher. He pulls no punches. He started out as a standup comic and he throws plenty of comedy into the movie.
If you are very religious this movie is probably not for you. On the other hand, if you are religious and you can take a joke you will be fine. There actually is a point to this movie. Maher examines Christianity in its many forms, Mormanism, Scientology, Judaism, Islam, some kind of religion that worships marijuana and a few others during the movie. I'm not going to give away the point of the movie here. For $7.50 you can get that at Westmount. Suffice to say, its relevant both in the age we live in and in any part of the world.
This is Maher's style. If you were a fan of "Politically Incorrect" as I was you knew he could take the most sensitive subject, discuss it with the strangest collection of actors, athletes and God knows who else and somehow come to a decent conclusion in half an hour. Pity, that show was taken off the air. It wasn't for lack of viewers.
