On October 11th, 2008 at approximately 9:30 p.m., London Police Service was called to the commercial plaza located at 1050 Kipps Lane for a report of stranger offering a ride to a child.
The attending officers spoke with a male who matched the description provided by the complainant. The male was initially cooperative with police. Officers noted that he was intoxicated and the male was warned not to drive his vehicle and find alternative means of transportation.
Moments after the officers left, the male was observed racing from the scene. Fearing for the safety of the public, the officers attempted to stop the driver. A short pursuit was initiated which resulted in the driver fleeing from his vehicle on foot.
The officers gave chase and a struggle ensued, resulting in minor injuries to an officer. As a result, Sehlelo MGUNI, 32 years, of London was charged with Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Fail to stop for police, Resisting arrest, Impaired operation of a motor vehicle, exceeding the legal limit and driving under suspension.
