DIMITRIE'S RENT CHECK #6

Is it time to move on? Had enough of your neighbourhood? Your landlord? It's your choice where you live but there are a few details you have take care of with your present landlord. Unless you have a really easy going landlord who doesn't worry about  things like giving proper notice you should read the next paragraph.

On a recent trip to the Landlord Tenant Board web site (Google it some time if you can't sleep), I found a new form. Click on the link below to find the brand new Tenant's notice to landlord to inform him/her that you are going to vacate your unit.

http://www.ltb.gov.on.ca/en/Forms/STEL02_111310.html

For most leases you really do have to give 60 days notice before you move out. Some landlords will hold you to it, to the exact day. This means that on the final day of the sixty days you and ALL of your belongings must be GONE, VAMOOSE.

The notice actually states that if you don't remove all belongings by that date the landlord may dispose of them. It really is worth a read.

If you have rented an apartment and you plan to move out at the end of the school year I encourage you to download a copy of this notice. File it in a careful place. When winter starts to fade I suggest you fill it out and pencil in a moving day. Eventuall you will have to give the notice to the landlord. If your name or your parents name is on the lease you must give them some kind of notice and this one is a good one.

Now if you aren't a student, this applies to you too. I'm not trying to scare you but I have an assignment for you. Watch those TV Judge shows for a couple of days and count how many of the cases deal with landlords, tenants and warring roomates. Landlord, tenant and roomate battles are as common as clouds in November.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
