Christmas Joy or Holiday Horror Story?
As the Holidays approach, more and more people will be shopping and preparing to celebrate.  Although the Christmas season can be a joyful time of celebration, an unexpected robbery, theft or break-in can turn the happy times into a nightmare.
Neighbourhood Watch, in cooperation with the City of London and London Police Service, reminds you to make this season a time of rejoicing rather than a time of regrets.  Keep your wits about you and remember these important tips:
  • Lock your home when you leave, even if you are just running next door for a few minutes.  Criminals need very little time to take your valuables.
  • Lock your car, even at the gas station or convenience store.
  • Do not leave valuable items in sight, either in your car or your home.  Smash and grab crimes are on the rise.
  • Do not leave your purse open or unzipped as you walk through a store.  You may be missing your wallet the next time you need it.
  • Remember that sliding glass doors can be lifted off of their tracks.  Secure your sliding glass doors by putting screws in the upper channels so that they cannot be easily removed.

  • Remember to look out for your neighbours.  If you see suspicious activity around their homes or vehicles, call the police.  Many people think they are bothering the police if they report such activity.  You are NOT bothering them.  You are helping them to protect us all.

  • Celebration does not have to involve alcohol.  And if you chose to drink, make sure that you or your loved ones do not become a statistic.  Know your limits and drink responsibly.  Please… NEVER drink and drive.  Make this Christmas and New Year truly happy and safe.
Remember that Neighbourhood Watch London is here to help neighbours help themselves.  We are a community that needs one another.  Together, we can make this a great season in Ontario’s best city.  For more information on how to stop crime… before it starts, contact Neighbourhood Watch London at 519-661-6442.
