Demolition permits have now been issued by the City of London for five homes where the structural integrity of the buildings was deemed compromised.
The five unsafe homes, situated on properties located at 1039, 1041, 1043, 1045 and 1047 Dundas Street (on the south side of Dundas Street between Egerton Street and Kellogg Lane), have been commonly frequented by squatters, despite the doors and windows being boarded up to deter persons from entering.
"We exhausted all enforcement actions available to us," said Orest Katolyk, Manager of By-law Enforcement. "Ultimately, we had no option but to order the demolition of these dwellings at the property owners' expense."
Demolition orders were issued by the City in October of this year, following many prior property standards violations. The sites were also a busy location for police occurrences and joint City By-law and London Police Service police actions. Since 2004, London Police Services attended the properties a total of 174 times to deal with issues related to drugs, trafficking and prostitution.
