An Oldie but a Goodie, Kevin Costner, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon in "Bull Durham" - A Baseball FlickHere is the official review, click here. Read about Max Patkin, the Clown Prince of Baseball - One of a Kind, may he rest in Peace, click here I got a copy of Bull Durham in a DVD/VHS exchange. This was a keeper. Costner loves baseball. Sadly, he should have stopped at this baseball movie and not ever have made "Field of Dreams" or the other stinker where he actually donned a Detroit Tigers uniform. SACRILEGE. I never understood Field of Dreams. Did anyone? In Bull Durham he plays a washed up catcher brought ("Crash")to a minor league team to take the rough edges off a young pitcher who can throw smoke but he can't hit the catcher's mitt (Tim Robbins, "Nuke). In the middle comes Susan Sarandon who seems to always be around the ball park. She chooses a player each year to bed. She can't make up her mind between Crash and Nuke. From the title of the movie, my guess is the movie is set in Durham North Carolina as the summers are steamy and everything moves at that slow southern pace.
I will leave you with a few things about this movie. If you love baseball or you just want a movie that the guys can watch on a gals night out this would be a good one. This one reeks of testosterone. It also has really fun baseball humor in it for anyone who has even played Little League. Think garter belts!! Max Patkin, The Crown Prince of Baseball who passed away in 1999 makes frequent appearances with rubbery face and hilarious antics between innings. If you liked the Major League series of movies you should look for similarities in this one as I think Major ripped off Bull Durham for a few of its jokes. I think Major League came out in the early nineties while Durham came out in 88. If you are really lucky you might even find this one at a garage sale or bargain bin. If not, rent it for a night with the guys. You won't regret.
